The vacuum breaker on my Sealand toilet has sprung a leak and I ordered a replacement which should be here in a day or so. I have the 510 Plus model with the flush hose. I'm assuming the vac breaker is bolted to the rear of the toilet as it does not move. Using a small inspection mirror I can see the supply hose and flush hose fitting, but I can not see how it is actually fastened, not can I see the third port where it would connect to the toilet. Is there an easy way to replace this vac breaker without removing the toilet from the base? How difficult is it to remove the toilet from the base? Thanks.

Sounds like the same problem that we had last year. Ours is in a 95 Vectra without much space to sides and rear. Replacement kit came with some pretty good instructions and yes the change over can be done without removing the bowl. Can probably lay hands on the old instructions if you need them.
Good luck with the change.

Roadking, the vacuum breaker is not bolted but is held in place by a rubber grommet. When you get the new one, pry the old breaker out the back with a screw driver. remove hoses and the old grommet. Install new grommet into back of toilet and hoses on new breaker. Then install the breaker into the grommet. You will have to work it in. Good luck and keep us posted

Removing the bowl was the easiest way to service the vacuum breaker. Remove the cover on the bottom of the stool, and you will find a clamp holding the bowl to the base, loosen it and remove the bowl.

Wow. In my '02 Suncruiser, the vac. breakers are located atop an arm (think of Saguaro Cactus) coming off the drains on the bathroom and kitchen sinks. All I have to do is look under the cabinets and there they are. Simple to unscrew and replace should they ever need it.
OOOPS, I see this thread refers to the Sealand toilet. I guess they are a different breed of cat than my Itasca.

Hamguy: Yep, my "sewage vacuum breakers" are similar to what' you describe in your Itasca. Also, there's a pretty good chance your toilet has a vacuum breaker to enable the fresh water to flow from the top of the toilet down into the bowl. There's a different type of breaker for models with, or without, a "wash down" hose. And regardless of Thetford, Sealand, etc.... they're all expensive!!!
Mine is leaking when I depress the flush pedal so I have a towel hung on the back of the toilet to absorb the fine water spary. I'm still waiting for the part to arrive, so I haven't changed it yet.

I have had to replace several of them. If you wait till you get the new one, you will see what it looks like. I found the best way to remove them was to twist it left to right and wiggle it some to get the gasket to loosen up from the bowl itself. I would be careful if you use a screwdriver so as not to crack anything anything around the vacuum breaker. usually just wiggling it and working it around will loosen it and then pull straight out.
I have not trield removing the toilet but I believe that is is a fairly easy job so maybe that would be better for you. It depends on your ability to get behind the toilet and grab it.
