What should I set the trimetric 2020 at

I have two interstate gh2-hd-ut lead acid batteries 6v, 216ah for 20hr,
Intelli Power PD9260c converter/charger

50/500 shunt

I cannot find the high volt set point for the intelli power.

so for shunt I want H with a 94?

what is the best for ah set point?

ctcamper,
A good charging rate is between 15 to 20% of total battery bank capacity. If you have 216 ah of capacity you can charge them between 32 and 45 amps. If a battery is charged too fast its life is shortened, if the charge rate is set too low it takes forever to charge so there has to be a balance. For maximum battery life the battery shouldn't be discharged more than 50% of total capacity so that means you'll be replacing between 100 and 120 ah. So at 32 amps it would take between 3 and 3.75 hours to fully charge, and at 45 amps between 2 and 2.5 hours to fully charge. Keep in mind that if your charging your batteries and using 12 power in the coach at the same time the charge time will be extended based on how much power is being diverted for use in the coach.

I called interstate... they said the full charge on those batteries is 6.33 .. so the system would be fully charged at 12.66.

Intelli power manufacture tech said there is no high point voltage set point in the system..does not shut down at all, just reduces charge to a trickle.

I am trying to figure out the parameters to program the trimetric for these batteries.

Hi ctcamper,

Interstate is correct in that the full charge voltage is 12.66 volts but that doesn't address how much charge you have to put into the battery to achieve that voltage.

If you could be more specific about what parameter you need I can be or more help. One parameter is the interstate is a lead acid type battery. Another could be the charge percentage at which you want to charge your batteries which I referred to in my previous post. It may even ask for you battery bank size, but more specific information is needed.

The ah setting on the trimetric should be 50% of the battery capacity. In your case 216/2=108. Why? Because you never want to discharge your batteries under 50% of the capacity. So when the trimetrc reads 0 capacity you want to stop discharging.

I haven't looked at the Intelli Power manual but the vast majority of converters have an absorption voltage setting of 14.4 volts. But your Interstate batteries may actually not be fully charged (actually not fully charged but around 90%) until the voltage is 14.8 volts. That is the problem with RV converters, they really don't go to a high enough voltage to fully charge the batteries quickly and why many like using solar because the charge controller voltages can be adjusted. So if just using the Intelli Power the voltage should be set at 14.4, if using solar set it to 14.8. What this tells you is that the converter (or solar) has reached the absorption charge voltage which would put your batteries at about 90% charged.

The amps setting should be about 2% of your battery capacity or 216/50=4. If your charge rates falls below 4 amps, you batteries are considered fully charged. If you set this, it overrides the above voltage setting. This is actually good if you are using a converter to charge since the converter will never reach the absorption voltage reading the battery actually wants (14.4 vs 14.8) so you can use this minimum amp rate to better gauge how full your batteries are.
