Like many others, we have a Shurflo water pump on our rig. The pump is of 1992 vintage, and the model number is 2088-403-444.

Here's what's happening:

When we turn on a faucet we get great water pressure for about 10-15 seconds. The pressure then drops off almost to a dribble, especially in the shower. This continues until we shut off the faucet, let the pump build pressure, then turn the faucet back on. I removed and cleaned the strainers at the sinks. The shower head is new. I removed and cleaned the strainer attached to the water pump itself. But the problem continues.

When we turn the faucet or shower off, the pump continues to run for nearly 20 seconds, apparently building up pressure, then it shuts off.

Any suggestions? We are full-timers and the water pump gets a lot of use. Am I in the market for a new water pump, since this one is 13+ years old?

Tom, be sure the check the water line from the tank to the pump. If it is pinched or if there is debris even in the tank at the port for this line feeding the pump it can ru as you discribe. To test the pump you could install a tubing and place in a 5 gallon bucket of water and retry. If it performs normally then your pump is ok and you have a pickup problem on the inlet side. Let us know what you find out.

Mike,

Your advice was right on the money. It turns out that we had debris inside our water tank. I disconnected the pump and checked the water line from the tank to the pump. The line itself was clear, however there was debris inside the water tank at the point where the water line connects to the tank. I removed the debris, and all is well again.

Thank you very much for your help on this!
