Solar Panel Mounting with 3M VHB tape?

I heard today from someone that I consider a pretty reliable source that a lot of solar installations on fiberglass roofs use the 3M VHB tape for mounting. Any horror stories or gotchas using this method?

Thanks

Moving or removing would be one concern. I'm thinking that they'll stay affixed wherever you put them. For a good long time...

Oh H NO. I have had miserable failures with double sided expensive tapes. You better have some screws involved. Explain to someone how you relied on double sided sticky stuff.

AM Solar told me that they use 3m VHB (not sure which part #) for many years on many rigs and have never had a failure. for a sample size of one, I used it on my 06 Aspect with 2 -100 watt panels and drove for thousands of miles in high winds from the front and side (probably over 100mph combined at times) in Nevada with no failure. A quick (operative word quick) check of the Internet and found no cases of 3M VHB failures on anything. Using just a few small crews threw fiberglass I would not trust at all. You gotta know that all that jostling and wind gusting up there will wear anything that heavy and not glued or bolted down.
