Here is a simple home made tool for removing and installing the HWH leveler solenoids. Due to the limited space between them, I couldn't use channel locks or other tools. It works like an oil filter tool, and is made from a piece of hardwood (I used a small wire brush handle) and some plumbers tape. The wood needs to be thick enough to act as a cam when the tool is turned. Screw the plumbers tape to the wood. Slip it on one way to remove the solenoid, so that the tool tightens around the solenoid as it is unscrewed. Then flip it over, slip back on to reinstall it. Worked perfect!

Crude but effective. A good companion tool would be a cold beer to cry in when you discover that the solenoid valve piston head is still stuck in the manifold.

Looks like a smaller, home made version of an oil filter wrench. Thanks for the idea. I'm planning to do some work on our jacks in the near future, and this will come in handy. I'll be removing front and rear solenoids, so I'll just put the larger wrench for the rears on one end of the stick and the smaller for the fronts on the other.

Jack - I've heard of the stuck piston issue. What's the trick to get one that sticks out?

Good idea Bob I'm going to add in Quick Tips HWH section for quick reference.
