There is a manual door latch release under the fold out section of the washer. You just push it down and it will release the lock on the door. Just make sure that the water level is below the door.Click image for larger version

You might have to call Splendide then. It sounds like the door latch handle might have broken. I remember seeing a thread on here about a broken door latch but canít remember if there was a resolution. Hope you get it fixed.

I found a service manual that said I have to remove the top and go down to the latch and open it with a screw driver. This means removing the washer. Thanks for your help

First question is, does the door handle feel weak or spongy? If so, the handel has failed. The original design was week, and nearly all of them will break eventually.

Westland Sales imports Splendide and they have repair parts. (800-356-0766)

When our handle failed I used a screwdriver to pry the door open. This does not hurt anything. Pull the handle open and insert the screwdriver in to where you can see the spring; pry the patch to release the door. We used ours that way for several months.

The new handle is built stronger and should work well for you. You do have to remove door, but I did it, so you should be fine. The the new handle is about $70 as I recall.

HTH

Mine broke last June, I fiddle and pulled and fiddle till I was able to open the door. After the trip I took the top off and reached down in and removed the door lock. Mine actually broke internally and I was able to remove broken part and reinstall for the wiring circuitry so unit would continue to operate, we just have to remember to not open door till water pumps out.
