Splendide 2000 not drying well

We have been having to run the W/D through two 120-minute cycles to dry even a small load of clothes. Today I called Splendide tech support and discussed the problem with him.

My W/D is vented outside and I found that there is no air coming out of the vent when the unit is in the dry cycle! I had already cleaned the vent hose between the unit and the outside. He told me that it could be the dryer fan motor or a vent hose inside the unit totally clogged. I tend to think it's the motor since I'm feeling no air at all.

Now I've gotta get that monster out an access hole in the end of the closet since there is a cabinet about 18" directly in front of it! Since that sucker weighs around 150 lbs. that's not gonna be fun!

Have any of you ever had this problem, and if so, what did it turn out to be? Thanks!

Does the tub get hot after running the dry cycle? On our unit when the vent was plugged the unit got hot and went into an error condition with a flashing red light. Ours is a 2100 though so it may be different.

No, it never gets really hot. Very warm, but not what I consider hot.

Mine does that all of the time and I have to clean the lint trip in the back where the lint screen slides into. I use a piece of clear plastic tubing that will fit inside of the area where the lint filter fits and tape it inside of my shop vac hose. It is amazing how much lint you will suck out of the inside of the machine and the dryer vent hose. Once that is done the dryer works great.

Give the factory a call. Usually you get a recorded message, but they do call you back. We have had a couple of problems and they were very helpful. If the dryer isn't getting hot I'd suspect the heating element or a problem with power to the element. safe travels.. ed

I'm hoping mine breaks down so I can throw it away and buy the new one which has a larger capacity. No luck so far!

Hi Ed! Guess you missed it but I did talk to the tech support guy at Splendide. He was very helpful and even e-mailed me a complete service manual (76 pages) on the 2000!
Since this is only a 120 VAC heating element I think it is getting hot enough. He stated that you've got to have that air flow along with the heat to get the clothes dry.

Joe,

I have the same unit. Mine didn't dry well no matter how long it ran. I finally found the lint trap on the back of the unit. It slides up. It is on the back left side as you look at the unit. After I took mine out and cleaned the filter/trap of many years of lint buildup, the unit works just fine. I went two years bitching about it. Bet your is blocked.

Bill, I can't find anything like that on the back. There's only a few inches of space behind it so I can't see all the way across, but I don't see it. Are you saying that it's on the back left as you're standing in front of the unit, or when you're behind it? I looked through the service manual and there's no mention of a lint trap on the back. Mine is a model WD802. Would you see if yours is the same?
I appreciate your help!

Bill, I talked with the tech support guy again at Splendide about the lint trap. He said they stopped using them in 1996. He said it was a trap that attached to the vent opening on the back where the hose to the outside attaches. He said the manufacturers were mounting the units up in holes with no way for the customers to get to the lint traps so they were clogging up. Does that sound like what you have?

Mine is a WD802M built in 1998 and it has the lint filter at the left rear. There is also a filter at the bottom right front but that is for the water drain. Although mine has a shelf over the washer Alpine built a removable panel at the back so I can get the filter out and clean it. I do that after every wash as it is very small and clogs quickly.
Just found this comment on the Splendide website that may explain the above:

"The dryer does not dry properly".
Possible Cause (WD802M ONLY): The dryer lint filter is clogged.
Solution: This model may have an optional dryer lint screen installed at the dryer vent attachment on the back of the machine. If installed, this screen should be cleaned regularly to optimize drying performance.

Mine is a 2002 and it does have a lint screen and trap that has to be cleaned constantly. As you are looking at the front of the unit, it is in the rear left side of the unit. It will be a small pull out screen. Once that is removed get a hand mirror and a flashlight and look down inside. Be carefully not to drop the screen behind the washer dryer. The outside dryer hose is connected there and that is where the lint gathers and stops the air flow. The vacume method I mentioned earlier works great.
