Splendide door handle broke off!
Just broke off today. I can open it using a needle noise pliers. Has anyone had this happen? How and where did you get it fixed?
Thanks.

Mine did that too, called Splendide US and they sold me the part directly. Door handle is expensive a Hundred or so and it was easy to replace. Just pay attention to how you take it apart to pu it back together. In the meantime, I ran a piece of insulated wire through the spring hole and tied a big not in it. Just push in on the door at the same time as you pull on the wire. Works for awhile until you get the part.

Jim, did you have to take the door apart to get to the handle?

I had that happen and if I am not mistaken the instructions that came with the new handle had me take the door off.. It took about 15 minutes from start to finish. As stated before, make sure you pay attention to how it comes apart!

It is a fairly common problem. It comes from trying to open the door before it unlocks. I called Westland Sales when ours broke, and the first thing they said was to quit trying to open the door when the red light was not flashing. The plastic in the handle eventually fatigues from the constant tugging. The design could be better.
Ever since we replaced our handle several years ago, we have had no further problems now that we wait for the flashing light to indicate the door is unlocked before even trying to open it. The part can't be that expensive to make, so I just think they charge that much to teach customers a lesson in patience. Fortunately, the handle is relatively easy to replace.

Hasn't everyone who owns a "lucertola" (Italian for lizard) experienced this? The Italians make great performance cars, horrible washer-dryer combos. Ours not only shed its handle, it is possessed by demons: the combo starts a cycle only if we kill a chicken, dance around the coach; then, the timer spins like Linda Blair's head, unprompted. The dryer heat is so high, clothes practically smoke. Cycles can take 30 minutes or 6 hours, depending on lunar phase. Did I mention it drains fresh water tanks dry, miraculously dispenses twice the amount, into the gray tanks? Bravisimo!
Now, you have the joy of paying $60-100 for an envelope of parts worth $8, half of which you don't need
PS I put a big sticker on mine, beside the handle: "PULL GENTLY WHEN LIGHT IS SLOWLY BLINKING". If you travel with kids, I'd add another: "NO ONE UNDER 18 ALLOWED TO TOUCH".
Tip: Use the 2-handed approach, when opening these machines. With one hand, gently actuate the handle, with the other pry at the door edge with fingernails. And, if a raspy voice comes from inside, YOUR DRYER COOKS SOCKS IN H&LL, flee the coach immediately

Prices must be comming down. I just ordered a handle from "Splendide" in Oregon. The price was $52.00, including shipping. Now, hopefully, the right part was shipped.

Mine broke. After going thru the PITA process of installing a new handle, I decided that if it ever happened again, I would just shell out the extra bucks and buy the whole new door assembly

Had to help the FIL replace his broken handle last summer. Someone just couldn't wait for the machine to stop and unlock itself. What a PITA.
