Splendide Handle is hard to open
After searching the 256 posts I see that a broken handle is probably in my future if I cannot figure out why the handle has gotten so difficult to open after the cycle is complete and the unit has stopped. I have tried pushing in on the door as I squeeze the handle, but that does not seem to help. Is there an latch adjustment somewhere? Any ideas? Model WD802M

Are you aware that there is a time delay before the door unlocks after completing a cycle? The door remains locked for 1-2 minutes after completing a wash cycle.

X2 on what Joe posted. Don't rush it or you will have a broken handle in short order.

Thanks for the posts. We only use the machine to dry. We have been using the machine for 10 years with no problem. We have always been able to open the door at any time during the drying cycle. I can hold the handle with the locking tang retracted and close the door and open the door with no problem. As soon as I stop squeezing the handle the door is latched and it becomes extremely difficult to get it back open. I found that squeezing the handle and shaking the door or pounding next to the door will release the latch. It is like the interior locking latch is always partially engaged. It is clear of the outer latch.

Is the door hinge worn and dropped down? Mine would not start and was harder to open. Recrimped with vise gribs and lubed hinge.

I removed the switch and verified that it was sticking. A new door switch is on the way. I can provide the gruesome details if anyone is interested. I will provide the resource info once I have received the switch and completed the repair.

Westland provided the internal switch that locks the door to prevent it from being opened when the wash cycle is active. After removing the top of the machine, releasing the wiring harness, removing the front panel, one of the control modules, unplugging another harness, and finally removing the two screws that hold the switch in place I was able to remove the old switch. It was very tricky to get the switch screws back into the new switch due to very tight quarters inside the machine. If you do not consider your arms rather small, I do not know how you would do this. Fortunately I was just barely small enough to get my hand where it needed to go. It only took about three hours and I had it all back together and it works like new. Most of my time was spent getting another tool, trying to get my hand back out of the machine and cleaning up 15 years worth of dust and such that becomes visible when everything comes apart.

Remove the front rubber seal, there is spring loaded retaining wire that has to be removed first. Latch/switch is easily accessed.
Also use a thin washer between the white metal front face of washer and latch/switch on each of screw. Reduces door slamming to get the washer to start.
