I have had this problem on and off. I have Kiwkee steps and when I open the door, the steps open fine. When I close the door the steps come in and click (jump the gears) for about 5 seconds. I have in the past replaced everything, and took it to my service center and they noticed it and fixed it. I know, because when I got it back, all was well.

I've tried disconnecting it and closing the door, than plugging it back but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay,

Do you know what the shop did to fix it before? Find out if you can. You can usually do whatever they did yourself.

The motor for the kwikee steps runs 2 directions. There are stops for the arm on the motor and there are stops for the steps.

The motor wants to go from stop to stop. The steps want to go from stop to stop. Watch the steps go in and out and see if the steps are hitting their stops before the motor reaches its stops.

The clicking (gear jumping) is not good. The motor should stop when the stairs stop. If it is jumping gears, it is grinding off teeth. In time the teeth will be gone and the steps will not work at all.

My steps were binding up and sticking open when I got it. They would come out and then not go back in. The PO apparently had the steps out and hit something with them. They were/are tweaked a bit and hitting the stair stops too soon. A simple adjustment of the stops fixed my problem.

If you don't have the Kwikee instructios, go online and find one. They will help a lot.

Good luck.

When my steps would stop in either direction and motor continued to run the service center adjusted the the pivot arm (the one mounted via ball joints). Don't know if your steps are the same or not, just thought I would throw this out there.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the adjustment later this week. Sounds like the simple solution. I'll keep you posted.

Unfortunately, with the rod disconnected, the controller went into tyhe close mode and still kept clicking. Maybe time for a new/ rebuilt controller.
