Stripped nut on propane tank valve.
I have a propane tank mounted under the coach that has a stripped nut. I accidentally tightened the nut when I thought I was untightening it. I've tried using a rag with a locking vice grip and it didn't work. I've used a chisel in the clockwise direction to try to break it lose and still nothing. Anyone have an idea of what to do next?! The picture is prior to stripping it bald!
Thanks in advance,
Sheldon

I would try a pipe wrench. A good one, not one from Harbor Freight, as you are going to need one that has pretty tight tolerances, one that grabs hold without a lot of lost movement.

If the space between the nut and the tank is tight, a wrench like this may work better than a pipe wrench.

If you are talking about the POL fitting that goes directly into the tank valve it is indeed a left hand thread,
I would try using a fairly large pipe wrench... You will have to replace the POL anyways, so just git after it.
BUT!!!!! WARNING!!!!
DO NOT TRY TO APPLY HEAT TO THIS VALVE or it's POL Fitting....IN ANY WAY/SHAPE OR FORM !!!
IF you do..A CRISPY CRITTER YOU SHALL BE !

Penetrating oil, pipe wrench if it fits or vise grips if not. Tap the wrench with a hammer to get a shock load to loosen the joint. Take your time as in give it a day to soak with several applications.

Tried the oil and vise grip, but I'll get a good pipe wrench. Thanks

I was nervous using the chisel, so heat was not an option. No crispy critter here! 😋

Agree w pipe wrench approach.
If still having problems you might add some of the chilling spray to shrink the POL find w the wrench.

Stripped nut on propane tank valve.

Just a FYI for everyone. When you see those "hash marks" on any nut or fitting that tells you it is a LH thread.
