Suburban Water Heater SW12DE 120V Hi-end Switch Issue

I have a Suburban SW12DE hot water heater less than 2 years old which has an issue with the 120V T-Stat High End Switch. Power in but no power out. I had read on the internet where some others have had this same issue. Looks like the wire connecting the two points got hot, showing a burnt look?

Anyone else have this issue with this water heater on the AC side? First time I have had such an issue with a hot water heater.

Well, if that thermostat is burnt, I'd check your heating element first, then replace the thermostat.

If you have no power out of the t-stat, I would say it would be that.
Let us know what you find.

Any suggetion of how to verify the condition of the heating element at this point before I simply replaced the Tstat switch? With no power coming to it how can I check its status out?

Hot wire it directly?

Thanks,

You can ohm it out.
Our service call man had this happen. Little tstat wire in between contacts blown. Element ohmed out fine between hot and neutral on the element. But between hot and ground, and neutral and ground, it was shot. He pulled it out and it had esploded.
Go ahead and replace the tstat but don't gripe when it blows again and you didn't take a couple minutes to pull/test the element.

I did the ohm resistence on the element and got zero, thus I guess I got to replace both the heating element and the switch. I guess the element went out and subsequently caused the Tstat switch to also go?

Yep. 0 ohms means no resistance means it will not heat up.

Are you sure the spade clips were on the male spade clips the 120 wire connections have been found jammed between the plastic mounting instead of on the spade connection.
When that happens the plastic will melt and even smoke up the place.
I would replace the electric element than try heating the water may not need a thermostat.
