Basically two choices, Progressive Industries or Surge Guard. If I were doing it over again, I would get the portable and mount it inside the shorepower bay between the cord and transfer box. Both brands of surge protector are good. Just don't go without one. I happen to have the Surge Guard. It's what my dealer sells. I would have no problems with, and might even like, the Progressive Industries unit better.

Search the forum, lot's of posts discussing the pros and cons of both brands. Lot's of really good info on each. I think both are good units.

And I have the Progressive 30 amp portable, but would not have a problem using the Sure Guard. Shop around and get the best deal.

To determine the best surge protector compare the joule rating of each and buy the one with the highest rating you can afford.

I have the Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C with the remote display. I hardwired it in the electric bay and do not have to think about it when hooking up. It is always there.

They have both hardwired and portable 30 Amp units as well.

I also have the Progressive Industries surge protector. I bought it based on the reviews posted here and in the year I've owned it it has not failed me.
