This is probably a must have for RV users. I have a 30amp RV, does anyone have a suggestion on what would be the best to buy. Thanks

I was in the Chat Room tonight and I asked the question and I guess most all use a surge protector. I'm still interested in what people think would be the best one to buy. Along with the same topic one person in the chat room said low voltage is bad also. If the SAFE green operating AC volts is around 113 to 127 (going by a volt meter I bought at the RV dealers) does that mean if the voltage goes above 130 or so it will kick out the protector ? And on the other end of the scale if the volts drop below 110??? what is there for protection on that end. Maybe there is something that you can plug in and it will sound an alarm sort of if it hit some low voltage that is set. Crazy questions I know but just learning.

I bought my surge guard on E-Bay. It plugs onto the cord . Camping World also has them.

Many of our members, me included, have Progressive Industries EMS's. If you do a search using the words Progressive Industries, you'll find many threads discussing the topic.
I wouldn't have an RV without one.

Yes mine locks out at either to high or to low voltage. Saved my A/C couple times and everything once when lighting hit the campground electrical transformer

I would recommend a 50 amp version and use an adapter. Then if you ever upgrade to a coach that has 50 amp service you will not have to buy a 50 amp surge guard for it. I have had a TRC for 9 years and it has saved me twice that I know of.

You might consider the Power Master Autoformers with surge supressors. PowerMasters

I have had the EMS-PT50C by Progressive Industries for 2 years. It has saved me a few times already when voltage was low, or dropped during the night. Since it is "automatic" the power will come back on when the voltage stabilizes.
I decided on the PT-50C when I had a 5'er, just in case I decided to trade-in for a newer RV. I did, and now the PT-50C is part of my new RV. If I trade again, it will follow.
Good luck.
p.s., check the pricing on RVUPGRADES.COM

Welcome zzjea to irv2.
As Wayne said some of the most expensive items in your coach plus many control boards, its a very inexpensive considering the price of your coach.
Enjoy the forums and do ask questions.

A surge from a near by lighting strike can cause a fire. When it happened to me it blew out 2 TV's, a receiver, a computer, clock radio, DVD player and the control board to my fridge. What was most shocking (could not help myself) was it blew out a surge suppressor (multi strip outlet that was rated for 10k volts) and it burned and scorched the carpet around it. We were lucky.
Stopping the surge outside the RV is best and safest

If circuit breakers stop overloads on circuits, why can't there be a circuit breaker(s) for low or high voltage? Why is a suppressor different? Speed of response?
Still don't understand why there is such an expensive complex solution to this problem. A surge suppressor on a PC line does not have to be thrown away when it does its job.
Thanks.

I NEVER leave home without my Progressive surge protector. I use it all the time. It only takes once to destroy alot of big buck items in the M/H. You will find several mfgs of this type product. You decide which is best for your needs then go get one and always use it.
