Surge Protector Failures

We have had two TRC surge protectors go bad recently. The first *could* have been related to a storm because there was one nearby and it stopped working during that time frame. The most recent time (yesterday) we just arrived at a campground and the unit would do the normal wait time and then show green as if all is fine and then would not pass through any electricity. The first time the unit would not turn green but just keep cycling and checking.

In both cases it appears the power pole was fine. I am currently hooked up direct at a campground and all seems fine. The metering is good, etc. with voltages, etc.

The first time the company replaced immediately and now I am awaiting a return email.

Both units are the 30 amp version and model 34730. I used a 50 amp model before for two years with no problem but now have a 30 amp RV and have had these two units go defective. I don't believe there is an issue with the motorhome that I can tell. As I said this most recent time there was not storm in the area and it was working fine at home and then when we arrived here at the Campground the green light came on and you could here the normal loud clamp of the relay but no AC coming through.

Ideas appreciated.

Gary

Gary, my old TRC unit let an open neutral pass through, needless to say, not good. I went with Progressive Industries, so far so good.

Do yourself a favor and dump the TRC unit. Then buy a reputable Progressive Industries unit. They have the best customer service and the units are guaranteed for the life of the unit, not the owner.

30 amp units:

EMS-PT30C

EMS-HW30C

There are some vendors that sell these units at great prices. Just do a thorough Google to find them.

I sold my TRC unit on eBay years ago and installed the 50 amp EMS unit, HW-50C with two remote displays.
