Tank levels

We have tank gauges that are adjustable. I have adjusted the gray and black tank indicators so when they are empty, I turn the gauge to show 1/4 full, then back off a tiny bit. This way, when the gauge indicates "full", I know I still have some time to empty the tanks. Still, I'd like to know how full the tanks really are when they indicate "full", so I can make finer adjustments.

Does anyone have a clever way of determining how full the black and gray tanks are?

Well,,,, There is one way to know when the black tank is at its fullest point...

I think there should be an panel alarm beep that goes off when the black or grey tank indicator goes red. And provide and override button to shut it off. So it doesn't alarm when traveling, the sensor alarm only goes off after the red indicator has been on constent.

With our black tank, I can take a flashlight and look down the toilet to see how full the tank below is. This doesn't work for some RVs because there is an angled section of pipe between the toilet and the tank, so you can't get a direct view into the tank.

Most people say the gray tank starts backing up into the shower when the tank is too full. You could try deliberately filling the gray tank with clear water to see what happens. A word of caution, however - our gray tank overflows into a storage bay when it gets too full. Apparently, the seal around the pipe where it enters our gray tank isn't tight.
