Have a Techma toilet. Just did a dump so I know the tank is empty. The red indicator has stayed on, indicating tank is full. Read that the sensors are on the outside of the tank.

So problem is, how top get whatever is setting off the sensor off the inside wall of the tank, or how to confirm the sensor is still good. Any ideas would be appreciated

I'm having the same problem on brand new RV. Since we have a bath & 1/2, I have 2 key pads & 2 sensors. I emptied and rinsed out the BW tank. One sensor works & other still shows tank full. I accessed the black water tank. The sensors are black, about 3/16" thick, rectangular, about the size of a business card and have 2 wires. I found one sensor on the outside of the BW tank at about the 1/2 full point. The other sensor had come loose. I re-attached it (it has its own adhesive) but key pad still shows full. I'm planning on taking it to the shop Monday.

I have a Tecma and the red inidicator is "Power on" near as I can tell, nothing to do with tank levels.

The level sensors in the tank are basically nails. Nothing more than nails, (Pins, screws, rods, whatever you want to call them, Metal rods) Slime and such builds up on them so that they work well,, Only when new.

There is no cure.

HOWEVER I have found that a Valterra Master Blaster tank cleaning wand (If it can be used on your rig) will blast 'em clean (However you need a "Sea-Land" type toilet, this won't work with macerators)

Theory has it a RV-Swivel Stick by Camco may do it too (And the odds of it being usable if you have a SEA-LAND style toilet are very high, won't work with the power flush macerator jobs like the Tecma) .

You might try the GEO method of cleaning, Dump, then add Half a cup each Dawn dishwashing liquid, and Calgon Water softener (power or liquid) Flush 5-10 cycles. Then drive a while (Say 50 miles) then dump again, Tank will read full, because it will be full,, of soap bubbles.

MSgt stated that the sensors are on the outside of the tank. When traveling, most internal and external tank sensors are next to useless. The same is true for locations that have hard water (like Arizona). Consequently, most folks end up using experience (and the time since the last dump) to judge the true fluid levels in their black tank.

For example, when we thoroughly flush our black tank, the sensors work fine. But once the tank starts to fill up, all bets are off. However, as it turns out, we don't need the sensors to judge when the tank is nearing the full mark. Other more reliable indicators start to kick in at that point.

Did you use the flush system when you dumped?

Are you using a macerator? If so the recommended procedure is to start the gray going so you can check for leaks. Close the gray and dump the black. Shut macerator off, Open gray and let it back fill the black. Close the gray and dump the black. Do this a couple of times.

If dumping with the 4 inch hose you can't do that. Just add a couple of gallons of water to the tank and don't worry about the red light. It will probably go out in a few hours. If it was red you really had it full. As for the flush kit many of us have had to remove the end and drill the holes out to about 1/8 inch. Especially after filling the tank full the paper will clog the tiny holes.
