Testing a backup camera

When I bought my 83 Pace Arrow the PO said that the backup monitor was stolen, and I have located a new one, but before I invest the money is there any way to test the existing system to determine it works before I invest in that new monitor. I would hate buying the monitor just to discover that thee is either a problem in the wiring and or camera.[Sony SSC520CAM]

For just a little more money, I would recommend buying a new system. Keep in mind the age of the system in the coach.

Plug it into any TV with RCA inputs (red/white/yellow, yellow is video). Nearly anything less than 10 years old, and most less than 20, will have at least one set.
