We are full timers and I had my Thetford toilet replaced with a New Thetford hi-rise toilet back in February, 2012. I have just had the water inlet valve replaced due to leaking for the third time. It is warranteed, but it is a real problem. I have contacted Thetford and they tell me that they are not having a problem with the valve, but I feel it is a poor disigned water valve. The first one lasted less than two months, the second one around 3 months and the third one around 5 months. Is anyone having a problem with their Thetford toilet water valve leaking? I'm ready to switch to a different brand if it would solve the problem.

I have had the thetford and dometic in the past with no water valve problems. Are these leaks coming from the brass plunger and internal seal, or from the hose clamps connecting the valve to the water system?

Is the Co. installing the Toilet for you or are you doing it your self?

If the Co. is doing the work tell them you want them to take it out and put another bran in it's place or give you your money back.

Just a thought.

I replaced a water valve that was leaking internally and flooding the toilet. Until I could get a replacement valve, I went to Home Depot, picked up a ball valve shut off valve and some "Shark Fittings" and installed them just before the water valve. That allowed use of the toilet in the interim with the small inconvenience of opening the shut off valve to flush. A replaced water valve was furnisher under warranty and I installed it in less than 10 minutes, the nearest warranty service was at least an hours drive away.

The leak is from the plunger and seal. The company I purchased the toilet from has been doing the repairs under warrantee. Should it happen after the warrantee has run out, I will be changing brands of toilets. Does anyone have any suggestions on another brand?

Our 2000 coach came with a Dometic Sealand 500 series Marine toilet. It's been virtually trouble free other than only this year the fresh water valve needed replacing due to some seepage around the seal. However no other problems over the past 12 years.

I had a Dometic Sealand for 13 years and never had a problem, well I had to replace the ball seal/gasket once.

oops, I forgot, this year I noticed the bowl wasn't holding water, so I took an old toothbrush cleaned real good around the ball seal then after it was dry, I soaked it a couple of days with Aerospace 303 Protectant, then filled it with water and so far it's still holding..

I've heard using vinegar in the bowl will rid the gasket of calcium/lime build up getting rid of slow leaks caused by this. A good scrubbing and plumbers grease also works, but at some point a new gasket is needed.
