I’d also like to understand your propane usage with it and why you rejected the composting toilet. I’ve heard a lot about the “pros” but much less “cons” of composting toilets.
Compost toilets are like a bucket 1/2 full peet moss and a stirrer.

You add, solids only, to the peet, and stir it after each use. Diarrhea can be an issue.

Urine is stored seperatly and dumped in toilets or on the ground when full.

Once the bucket is full, you are supposed to stir it for At least 2 more weeks before disposing, to get the recent deposits composting.
Most don't have a second bucket and just throw it all in a dumpster as soon as full or done camping.
You can do that daily with a plastic bag.

We are starting our fourth winter in a place with real winters. Our black tank system has never made it into our top 10 issues.

I think this technology has a lot of potential, but will be interested to hear how well the 'smell factor' is contained both inside and outside the coach.

If these can work reliably and without odor problems I've wondered if we won't eventually see a further evolution for RVs where grey water feeds in to a regular 'water closet' style toilet that then flushes in to an incinerator chamber. That would effectively eliminate the need for large black AND grey tanks. You might occasionally have to run the faucet to have enough water to flush the toilet or burn off water to keep the grey holding tank from overflowing, but it would eliminate the wax liners and mean never having to go to a dump station.

I believe the company I purchased the TinyJohn from does have a system related to the one you described. I will look it up when I get more time.

I am going to temporarily do a test run of the Tiny John's functionality in my stix-n-brix once I get my video camera equipment. Hopefully soon! Im very excited to get it going & share the results then install it in my RV come spring.

Video of you using your toilet? I think that might work on the "are you a thread killer" thread.

Lol...I am not one of those kinds of folks. The good news is that all 3 of my cats have readily volunteered to donate their poo for the tests!

C5C5 I'm in the same boat - single female, and just now starting to research these for a future RV purchase, for the exact same reason as you --- overwhelmingly the "ick" factor! Will follow this thread to see how it works for you!

Any idea how much noise this thing makes? The gas flame noise on the water heater and refrigerator are pretty minor, wonder what kind of sound (flame and/or fan) this thing makes in operation.

They do. It's their 'SepticJohn' line, but they aren't really designed for RV use (e.g. $7000 and up). That said, a company called Hall Logic is now developing an RV based version;

I guess you could always fall back to the old adage: if it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown, flush it down.

That would save some propane.

During the drought of 1988/1989 in MN, our well ran dry and we were too poor to have it drilled further down at the time. So we lived with an outhouse the next year and a half.

We still used our indoor flush toilet too with that old saying ("yellow mellow") and would use waste water from dishes or laundry and pour it down to flush.

I was in high school at the time and remember how awful going through that was for me, lol. I was the only gal in my class who looked forward to using the shower facilities after gym.

That being said, with my calculations, propane use will be very moderate for the Tiny John.

I'm preparing to set it up soon to test. Right now it is getting towards regular below zero temps here in MN, but as soon as that passes, Ill start videoing setup!

Keep tuned in!
