Smile Toilet Replacement?

We are thinking of replacing our toilet in the motorhome. Has anyone done this before? What should we look for in purchasing a new one? Any good tips on replacing it?

I've removed our toilet and put it back a couple times. Swapping one out should be easy.

Make sure whatever you buy will fit, also check the alignment position of your existing mounting bolts, some models are mounted with bolts at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions, others are mounted at 5 and 11 o'clock. Also make sure you have enough back space between the wall and the back of the toilet.

I replaced our bottom of the line plastic toilet with a ceramic residential size toilet from the same manufacturer. Measure, measure and then measure again to make sure you have the clearance for the new toilet. After that, it was a 15 minute job to replace.

As stated above measure and find out the bolt layout changing it is pretty much the same as a home toilet make sure the wax ring is at room temp and pretty soft tighten both holding bolts slowly and equally when it's close to tight have someone sit on the pot then finish tightening the nuts. As none of us are getting younger consider getting a ADA height toilet. I'm not a big fan of c/w but they do have a sale on toilets with a good discount.

The job itself is pretty easy. Other advice depends on why you want to replace it.
Why are you replacing it?

Wink replacing...

We are thinking of replacing it because we're getting a small "drip" or leak at the foot pedal area, and the toilet seems more "wobbly" than it used to be. My husband has tightened it down, but he's pretty handy.....and shouldn't have a problem replacing it with instructions from this forum.

I'm 75, retired Marine, replaced ours the other day, with a dometic 310. It is an 18 inch high model, needed that for the old knees. The old one was a 13 inch Sealand Traveler. Only problem was the sealand was a 4 bolt hold down and the dometic is a 2 bolt. Our new one came with a new seal, it was just a matter of taking all the screws out of the toilet flange, and turning it to where the two bolts would allow the new toilet to set down. Replaced all the flange screws with new ones from ACE Hardware, as the old ones were rusty. The only thing to watch is the condition of the floor. If the underlayment plywood is solid no problem. If the toilet has been leaking and if the floor feels spongy or soft, that would indicate a bigger problem. The wood would have to be replaced. With the toilet being "Wobbly" the toilet flange to the floor is suspect so check it carefully and make sure the floor is solid. Take one of the screws from the flange to the hardware store and get the same size. New screws in new holes may solve the problem.
Hope this helps.

BTW, got our new toilet from Camping World, shipped to my home for FREE, at least 25.00 less than the local RV dealers wanted for the Dometic 310 model. It arrived well packaged and in excellent shape.
Also from one of your other posts we replaced the awning on our other RV ourselves with the help of neighbors it was a job but turned out nice and we saved a bunch.
