SeaLand Gravity Discharge Toilet Model 110.

We've owned the trailer for 6 months ... 3 days after purchase we had to replace the seal. Now we need to do it again. We purchase the coconut oil tank treatment and use bio toilet paper.

Is this normal or what else can we do to keep this from happening.

Thetford sells a tool that is just basically a thin screw drive with a 90 degree ben with a hoock about a inch long. You then can take this and run in around the seal and remove and deposits. You can also use a coat hanger.

There is no reason you should have to replace the seal so soon?

Please explain the purpose of the special tool. I have cleaned both sides of the gasket along with the ball(valve) ...

We had to replace our first seal about 6 months after purchase new. I was using too caustic of cleaner on the toilet...not nec. and deterioated seal. Now we have the second seal working great after 3 years. I do use Theftford Seal Conditioner (RV Parts store/CW) occasionally and use the generic form of scubby bubbles from W-Mart to clean pot.

I made a tool to clean the seal groove by taking a paint can opener, bending the end 90 degrees and tying a heavy string in the handle. Loop the string over my wrist in case I drop the cleaning tool. I've used this tool for 10 years on several RVs with good results. The end of the opener is blunt enough not to damage the seal and fits the groove.
