I Got one of these

It has two tips. Fan Spray and high pressure stream. Works like a charm to blast the bottom of the tank. Stick it down the toilet and let the toilet valve close around it. Then turn it on and have a blast.

Buy only "safe for septic tanks" toilet paper, any brand. Do the mentioned "shake a few pieces in a quart of water" to be sure it breaks down easily. Use plenty of water. For us this means keeping a gallon jug of grey water from the galley handy and flushing generously with it when needed. And top off the black tank with water before dumping. Leave a few gallons of water in the dumped tank while traveling to break stuff loose. Us the calgon and detergent (put in early on -- right after dumping (and before driving with a few gallons in the black tank).

A trick I use sometimes is to flush a 10 lb bag of ice down the toilet just before hitting the road. Add a gallon or two of water so the ice can slosh around and knock buildups loose. Then when you get to your full hookup add a bunch of water to the tank and drain it.

A Word of WARNING!!!
The Ice will work IF you have a "Plop & Drop" (toilet directly over the holding tank)
But IF you have a vacuum toilet and/or one that has "duck bills and a vacuum pump"...you WILL damage the system..

Use whatever paper you want and don't bother using any chemicals and life will be much simpler. Just need to stand upwind when you dump.

At least they can move unlike those using the toilet cubicle next to you.

ICE is just expensive WATER and will not 'scrub' tank.

It floats, has no friction and just bounces around.
Tests have shown it is ineffective at scourging the tank.

The sloshing water has better chance of loosing crud

A few gallons of water should always be added back into waste tanks (black/grey) after dumping so bottom stays wet and stuff doesn't stick/dry out

I was going to make that very point, but it is so entrenched into RVing mythology that it is probably a waste of time - and sets you up for a hit contract from ye olde guild of icemakers who would lose a lot of business.

Scott tp is so thin, it only has one side.

We use Angel Soft septic safe.

The best chemical is dihydrogen oxide.

True, The main reason for my post was to have the readers understand that they do not want to put hard objects (Ice) down a vacuum powered toilet...rather costy to replace the vacuum pump and duckbills...(and rather an unpleasant project...bad enough to have to service the system every 2 or 3 years)
