I am relatively new to rv'ing and always travel with my RV refirg operating off the propane. A friend just informed me that he read this is not recommmended. Is this true? I believe he must have misinterpreted whatever he read.

We run ours constantly during travel on LP. You need to turn it off while fueling and going through some tunnels but that's even pretty rare.

Insurance companies would rather your rig catch fire in a crowded rally lot so they can pay for 3 or 5 rigs instead of just yours cause it caught on the freeway where others could STEER CLEAR.
At one time, there was a danger of the pilot light on the fridge, water heater and such blowing out.. IT was rare but it did happen.. Today those systems usually use DSI, no pilot light and thus it can not blow out,, and some serous paranoid grade sensors so if it does blow out (The main burner) it will either re-light or simply fault out and shut down, Rendering it safe.
Fires, however, happen for one of 3 reasons, Poor maintenance, Poor construction or.. Well, Poor construction.. If they happen, they are going to happen, and nothing save proper maintenance in the first case, will prevent it.. I'd rather it be just my rig if it happens.

RVing since 1984 and always run the frig on propane when on the road. So far I have not set fire to ant service stations, blown up a rig or had one catch fire.

The system is designed to be safe however there is always a degree of danger with most things we use in life. I will run the fridge while traveling but will not ride a bicycle on the road.

I am on my 4th RV and have always run with the propane on except when refilling the tank, then I turn it off.

I always leave mine on propane when traveling. If you can only run it when stopped you might as well have a residential type refrigerator that we all know work better. Of course if you boondock, this would be an exception.
