Trimetric install
Here's the cables I'm looking at. The long cable is battery ground. The small, I believe is alternator, and the gray loom cable is negative for inverter. The batteries are connected by these small cables in parallel. The other pic.
Can I use the battery cable cut to fit negative battery and to shunt? Then , other 2 wires for other side of shunt? Thank You, Chris

I need better pictures, I don`t see any batteries.
If you have a few 12 volt batteries, all the negitives go together. Then one neg. goes from them to one side of the shunt, with a short cable. Then the neg leeds that supply your house go to the other side of the shunt other side of tje shunt ( what ever used to be hooked to the neg terminal)
Be careful here, don`t want to burn things up

An example - my batt box sans batts.
See the shunt? The shunt's top thick black wire is the neg load wire that is connected to the battery. Off the bottom of the shunt is a black wire connected to a black bus bar where all other neg trailer wires are connected.
The orange wire with a fuse is the pos input to the Trimetric. The small black and white wires off the shunt are the 2 other inputs to the Trimetric. The orange, small black and small white all come out of the gray sheath on the left bottom.

Hey twinboat, the batteries are not in. I always remove them to charge at home.
I ran the wiring for the meter today and will mount the meter tomorrow.
On the negative post in the pic, is the negative inverter cable and battery ground. The small cable isn't being used.
Does just 1cable go from shunt to negative post, and take place of ground cable? And cable from inverter (load) go on other side? Chris

The important thing is only the negative battery terminals go to one side of the shunt, all loads, inverter, chassis, alternator, go to the other side of the shunt. The shunt's job is to measure all current going in and out of the battery to any load or charging source, the inverter, house lights, alternator, converter etc, this is the only way it'll do that.

BendOr, thanks for your reply. You gotta lot of wiring in there.
The Kelvin terminals are no problem, my only issue is where I put the wires on either side of the shunt.
I know that the load (inverter ) goes on one side of the shunt. Just not sure on the battery side.
So, do I use a small cable from shunt to battery negative and be done with it? Or, do I still need a ground cable from all batteries to frame?? This is where I'm confused. Thanks, Chris

Pictures sometimes help better, nothing other than the battery negative gets connected to one side of the shunt, chassis, inverter, etc get connected to the other:

Yup, what Luv2go said. One wire from shunt to neg battery terminal, the rest go to the other side, including ground cable.

On the last page of the PDF of the installation manual is a very good example of the wiring with text boxes that explain the installation.

Is it OK to mount the shunt in the same compartment as the battery(ies), or is that a bad idea due to corrosive battery gasses.

That's where I mounted mine. Easiest place for connecting the battery cables.
