True Induction Cooktop
When I set the heat on setting 1 or 2 I get surging of amps. It goes from 6 to 0 to 5 to 1 to 3 to 0 to 6 and so on. When set on 3 or higher the amperage draw is constant. Is this normal? To me any time you have a surge of voltage or amps your electronic equipment is not going to last long.

Definitely not normal! 
After thinking about it further, I can see how the current could vary as it maintains the selected temp. Just to be sure i would call tech support!

The True Induction cooktop works this way by design. Mine has been working fine for 2 years, and I haven't heard of any failures.

I've done fairly extensive testing with the cooktop operating through a Kill-a-Watt. If you search for my posts on Trie Induction, you can read the results.

we are using a diffetent brand, but the design appears to be the same - at the temp level on 175 deg or lower, the power consumption is on and off every so often , to maintain the right temp. at higher than 175 deg settings the current stays consistently for a given level.
i checked this on shunt, probaly as accurate as it gets.

I suspect that if you had better diagnostic equipment than a Kill-a-Watt, you would find that the power fluctuations at low settings are a sine wave and not on/off switching. I think that the sine wave would be easier on the electronics, leading to longer usable life.

Isn't this hard on the generator with the constant surging of high amps then low? This is where I first noticed it. After hours tech support told me that is how all cook tops work. I would think that a constant voltage and amperage would equal a constant heat.

Haven't noticed it with my True Induction unit, guess I'll have to check it closer.

If you're hearing the generator increasing and decreasing RPM as the cooktop cycles at low settings, you have an inverter generator that is made to do exactly that. If you had a standard fixed-RPM generator, you might hear more noise as it increases fuel delivery, and maybe some increase in the vibration. Either way, this is perfectly normal for the generator and will not harm it.

I am not sure if it is an inverter generator, Onan 8K, but glad to hear that it is normal. It is a new mh, so am looking for things that don't work correctly.

The Onan 8K is an inverter generator.
