Unhappy User Friendly?

Got what I think was a great buy on a floor model 22" Wedgewood Vision cook stove, and installed it in the 5er. Oven didn't work on the old one, and it was so obsolete no parts were available. Sanded & refinished the door, modified the cabinet, and all looked good till I went to light the oven. I wondered why they put piezo on the 3 burners and not the oven, until I went to light the pilot. Now I understand - you can't see (or light) the pilot without getting down on the floor, because the oven burner and pilot are mounted under a solid shelf, and the shelf is screwed to the wall. If it had the piezo, you wouldn't know if it lit or not. The way it is, I doubt the DW will use it much, too much trouble to light. I realize this is an older model stove, having been a display unit, but unless they make the oven pilot more user friendly on the newer models, I bet they don't sell many of them. I may just punch a hole in that plate so I can see and light I standing up.

I think all RV gas ovens have a standing pilot-light for the reason you stated-safety. Our 5er oven was exactly the same as you described, hard to see, hard to light.
These ovens are so small they do not retain heat well, I laid clay tiles on the metal plate above the burner to even out heat more, It helped DW bake her goodies, probably why I'm always over-weight.

Just got through helping my daughter with her oven in 1985 Honey class C. I believe it was a Magic Chef. It had the metal shelf over the pilot light and burner but the difference in this one was that the metal shelf lifts and slips out so you can easily light the pilot (and clean the oven.)

Maybe you can remove the screws that hold the shelf in place and fix it so that it lifts and slides...

Change that piezo igniter system to a battery powered electronic igniter system and add one to oven ............
