Hi everyone:

We have a 36ft. 2008 Carriage Cameo 5th wheel w/Arizona room... Love it!

We were in a pretty good rainstorm a few days ago, and noticed the leather footstool in the living room was wet. Looked up and water was dripping from the handle of the crank-up antenna.

We haven't noticed any other leaks. Is this common in a heavy downpour, or do I need to investigate further?

Thanks,
Randy

No, this is not right, you should reseal the antenna.

Somebody needs to go up on the roof and check out the antenna wire. One of the most common causes of leaks on crank up antennas is that the rubber boot comes off of where the wire enters the roof. Lots of times just putting the boot back on using a little silicone to hold it in place will fix the problem.

Does the antenna wobble? If so the nut above the crank handle could need tightening. Rain will come in under the pivot assembly on the roof if this is loose.

At mentioned above -- loose boot is probable cause -- if it's not the boot then there is a washer inside the crank mechanism the rubber washer brand new is super thin and can erode away to nothing. If it's the washer then you should replace the entire screw mechanism (which comes with the washer) since the mechanism comes with a washer and only cost a few bucks more than the washer alone. Any RV parts house should have the part -- Winguard (sp?) website should have a schematic and install instructions. Easy DIY.

Hey Randy, We are starting to get worried you went up on the roof a couple of days ago and we have not heard anything. Hope you didn't fall off or get stuck up there.
