Some of you may have heard, we had a little rain shower here in Texas last week. I happened to be be in the mh when I noticed water dripping from the front a/c unit. I removed the trim and found the four "hold down" bolts finger tight. The rear unit was not quite as loose but still not tight.

Just a heads up and another item to add to your routine maintenance list.

Of course I'm just assuming this is the reason/cause of my leak.

The same happened to me last year and has been good since I tightened the bolts you described. The only thing I would add is not to tighten them too much as you will flatten the gasket on the roof.

As usual , the exact amount will work.

Actually I was told by a Lazy Days tech to do seven turns. That's what I did but it may be too much for others.

If it's like with my DH, is just AFTER the crack/pop sound followed by a carefully chosen cuss word & the tool in hand thrown across the room.

Jim, the newer gaskets do not deform as badly as the older material and does not need retightening so often. Some of the units had springs to preload and keep a tension on the gasket. A lot of the newer ones have a tab on the inside of the gasket that just touches the roof when you have the gasket compressed 1/2 of it's original thickness.

Generally you want the bolt snugged enough to keep the unit in place and not be moved around. Do not mash the gasket flat. Some of the newer units have such thin pans, the pan can be distorted by not tightening the bolts evenly.

I had the same problem, only it was a lot of water on floor. Tried to tighten screws (all were loose) 1 would not tighten. Had to climb up on roof, take cover off AC, the bracket with the nut welded to it was not even on the screw, just laying there. I went ahead and tightened them pretty tight, no more leaks!
