I have an Atwood 6 Gal electric/propane DSI water heater. I thought everything was working fine, or it was the last time I used it. On electric it gets the water warm and only last for a few seconds and then it's cold. I switched to gas, it ignited and run for about 6 or 8 min and shut off. Same thing with the water. It's warm for just a few seconds and then turns cold. I checked all connections and everything seems to be fine, but I still don't have hot water.

Summit,
I was in the same boat as you are. A brand new fiver and no hot water. Heating element works and so does the propane. Everything else in good shape. This is what I found out, if your trailer has an outside shower check to make sure that the faucets are closed. If they are turned on, then the hot water flows there first and stops. That was my problem. Discovered that by accident. When I turned off the fawcets to the outside shower, my wife nearly burned herself with all of the hot water that started flowing throughout the trailer.

Have you found and fixed the problem? Checked to be sure it is not in bypass? Checked check valves? Let us know.

Thanks for the reply's. I haven't had a chance to check anything yet. Been working since I got back from trip. I am going to check the by pass, the shower and anything else that I may have missed. I was sure I opened up the by pass when I flushed the system out, but may have opened the wrong valve. I will let everyone know when I find the problem.

Well, do you ever feel like a dummy. I found the problem. I had both bypass valve's open, so when you turned on the water it was bypassing the water heater. It would get warm and then cold. It works good on electric now.
But now I can't get the gas to ignite. It may be the thermostat or the limit switch. Got to do some more checking on that. I just hope it's not the board. Thanks for the reply's. I'll post later with an update.

I got it fixed. After checking the switch and everything at the water heater for power I checked fuses and I had a blown fuse that was listed for lighting. Replaced it and everything works fine now. Thanks for the replys

I did that myself with the bypass valves, once.
The good thing is you'll remember next year.
