I have a '99 Pace Arrow 34N, with a six gallon hot water heater,(Propane).
Works great except waiting between showers when grandkids come along.
Is there a conversion kit or a larger tank, that will allow me to use park elec?
I can burn a tank of propane while out for a week, and would prefer using the park power.
Seems to be a lot of room under the galley sink could I mount a larger propane/electric tank there?
Anyone done this? Seems like someone could convert to a larger tank.

I bought this kit last year and it works great, easy install and I have hot water while parked in my driveway, hooked-up at a campground or while charging my batteries while dry camping. There are more complicated choices out there with additional wiring for internal switching, but this worked fine for me and the price was right!

Two conversions.. One is propane only...

First Attwood makes a "10 gallon" unit that fits in a six gallon space. This unit manages to put 10 gallons of hot in a six gallon tank by heatiing it not to 120 degrees, but closer to 180, then it uses a temp-senistive mixing valve to "mix" it down to 120 by mixing in cold water.

Problem. this added valve is yet another thing that can go wrong.

Advantage, it can work off electric as well.

Second, and this is propane only.. How would you like a 100 gallon water heater in your RV,, I mean, basically, Unlimited hot water, This puppy if you were to turn on the shower, full hot, go to dinner when you return it would still be hot.. (Well, if the propane holds out that is)
Recreational Vehicle LP Gas Tankless Water Heater. RV 500 on demand hot water heater by PrecisionTemp

Just thought of another option too, DO NOT RECOMMEND IT HOWEER

I've seen small electric "Flash heaters" (Another name for Tankless) in Lowes and Home Depot.. I might consider installing one in such a way that only the SHOWER can use it (or the shower/rear bath lav on my coach) You do need a lot of electric though.

Again. Unlimited hot water.

The inexpensive solution is the one that Ken-55 suggests. It works great and is a simple DIY install. You can power it externally, direct from the power pole, so you don't have to use part of the rigs own wiring to feed it.

The more elegant solution is the Atwood XT tank that John (wa8yxm) described. It's actually a 9 gallon heater in the package of a 6 gal and is available as gas only or gas/electric.

The flash heaters work good too, but electric ones use a lot of power and you probably have a 30A rig. There are propane models, though.

I also installed one exactly like Ken-55 recommended. Even purchased it from the same people and they are great to deal with. Had a problem with the heater in that it kicked out a ground fault breaker but worked fine on normal breaker. They replaced it with no problem.
