Just before leaving cold country, I accidently turned on the electric heating element on our Atwood 10 gal water heater that had been drained. Now that I have de-winterized and have a full water heater, I don't see any amp draw when the electric element is turned on and the unit heats water on LP only.
I suspect that I have ruined the electric element and that it will need to be replaced. From looking at the owners manual, the electric element is located on the back side of the WH.
Has anybody had to replace this element? Is it difficult to do with the motor-aide option.

I did the same thing this past spring during Bike Week. Easy to change.

Before jumping in, check to insure you have 120VAC to the element. You may have tripped a breaker, fusible link, or thermal cutoff in the supply line somewhere. My water heater has two switches controlling power, one is the panel breaker the other is outside on the water heater, a tiny black rocker switch that is difficult to move in either direction.

In another thread I mentioned that one of the reasons I don't like dealer/professional winterization is that they often skip a step. You did too.. With an ATTWOOD water heater when you winterize,, PULL THE RED WIRE.. don't much matter which end you pull but pull the RED WIRE.
This will protect the electric element as it will tell the control board the water heater is overheated and cause the fault light to come on instead of the heat element.
Till you re-connect the wire that is.. Then it works normally.. Provided you filled it.

And when you de-winterize and put the red wire back on - and you fill the water heater - make sure you change the bypass so water will flow into the water heater.

I read somewhere that it only takes 20 seconds to burn out the element if it is turned on without being submerged in water.
