Water heater question

I have a 99 Georgia boy pursuit with a gas only Atwood water heater, put new pilot light on it but after it heats up, it goes out, and you have to wait a while to relight, any suggestions on a fix.

Clean the flame sensor. The thermocouple has to stay hot or at least close to the flame to keep the Gas Valve open. Check for spiders too

It only goes out because the thermocouple is not staying hot.

I put new pilot and sensor on it, they came. Together, it's clean, when the water heater kicks off, the pilot goes out, it seems to be burning properly until that happens.

First, what is the model number of the WH? I want to make sure this is a pilot model. People use the term "pilot" too loosely and incorrectly sometimes, so I want to double check.

I will get you the model number tomorrow, but it is a water heater that you must light every time you go camping, no auto light, no electric, just gas

The burner may be backfiring and blowing the pilot out when it shuts off after reaching temperature. You really nead to check out the entire system to verify gas pressure and the condition of the burner and exhaust to ensure its drawing correctly. The coil in the gas valve itself may be on its way out or the shuttle sticking meaning it may be cheaper to replace the valve entirely or possibly be time for a more modern water heater.

Hello William. I also have a 1999, 30ft Georgie Boy Pursuit and would like to compare notes with you. My wife and I are new (about 1 year) to this RV and am having some difficulties with it that I would like to talk aboutwith someone who may know more about this than me. Is there a way on this forum for private messages?

I wound up ordering the parts and just completely rebuilt it, now works great, cost me about 120 bucks and an hour or so to do the work.
