Water Heaters gas / gas & electric

I have a Suburban SW6D (gas only) and the SW6DE is both gas and electric. I believe the installation dimensions are the same. I know if the SW6D is replaced with the SW6DE there would be two other considerations:
1. The 110 v. line to the new unit (probably not easy). I don't think I have any spare breaker slots in my electrical control panel. But you would have to have a breaker controlled (I think) electrical source for the SW6DE.
2. The switch to turn on the electric as opposed to gas (prob easy). Any number of places could be the place to mount the switch.

Has anyone made this change? I am not interested in the 'hot rod' conversion.

Well, it is my understanding it would void my warranty - my RV is less than a year old.

It may be possible to replace one of your breakers with a unit that has two half-width breakers. That would make room for the new breaker you would need. It should be on a breaker by itself. My electrical switch for the water heater is mounted inside the heater cabinet right on the unit. A little inconvenient. Would it make sense to use the breaker as your switch?

Excellent idea. I have actually written an email to Suburban to see their thoughts - hope they are good on email responses. I am in a 30 amp RV so the gas only makes sense from that standpoint but I would really like the electric option as well.
