I've done searches to find out the answer to my problem, but i'm probably not wording it correctly. Anyhow this is my problem. When I'm hooked up to city water, all the pressure side of the system works flawlessly; however when I am at a no service campground, and need to use the onboard water pump, there is a leak at the hookup for city water, it actually runs down the outside of the motorhome. It only leaks when the pump is on. To my way of thinking there must be a one way check valve somewhere in the city water line. Am I on the right track or am I missing something.

There has to be a check valve in the city water inlet, otherwise what is happing to you would always happen.
Until you locate and replace the valve, you can install a stop plug at the inlet.

Bumperfood,
I concur with Bluepill. There is a check valve. It is an integral part of your city water connection.
When hooked up to city water, the pressure comes from outside the RV and opens the check valve to allow water in. When running your water pump, the pressure comes from inside the RV and closes the check valve to prevent your stored water from escaping.
Most likely, to fix your problem, you will have to replace the whole city water connection piece.
Hope this helps.

Some RV manufactures used a seperate check valve in the piping, others have the check valve built into the city water connection valve. Some may have both. Look at the product descriptions for city water valves here.

The check valve may not be seating properly. You can push in on the valve with your finger. Just put your finger into the middle of the hose fitting and quickly release the valve. Push in with the water pump off and then try it with the water pump off. I've had this happen to be before. If you can't get the check valve to seat properly, then you'll probably have to invest in a new city water inlet.

bluepill: "Until you locate and replace the valve, you can install a stop plug at the inlet."
I have an older MH, with plastic lines and crimped ends and fittings, so I will install a plug for now. Not a pemanent solution, but certainly a good one--thanks.
I'll pull the connector out today and locate the valve, Actually I think I'll just install a new water connection valve c/w one way check; shouldn't matter if the defective one is in the piping.
Dave78Chief: The inlet does not look like any of those pictured, but some have large have large flanges, so I'm sure I can find one to do the job. Thanks for the link.
I have some more questions to ask in different areas of the forums, so please be patient with me. I will say that I have found the answers for a lot of queries just by using the search. if I can't find it there I will post.
