We found the tape on the inside of the external cover worked well. We did try a light in there but without the tape it just was not enough. Placing the thermometer in there monitors that compartment and really helped us to resolve the problem. I do not think I could get a heat tape around the 1/4 inch line. We also had fun with the ice maker due to a bit of high pressure. Will never forget the regulator again. Its nice to have the ice but what a weak spot.
