Water pump burps every few seconds

Hi folks
My water pump in my vintage /new Motorhome seems to pump fine but when all the valves are closed it burps and tries to maintain pressure every five or ten seconds. No visible leaks even the toilet valve appears to be holding. Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Thanks

The water pump is controlled by a pressure valve, coming on when the pressure drops as a faucet opens. If all faucets and valves don't leak, it points to the check valve in the pump that allows water to flow from the tank to the pump but prevents the pressure from pushing back into the tank. When this valve fails, the pump will come on everytime the pressure drops. Either replace the check valve or clean it out. If you don't want to mess with the valve that might be built into the pump housing, you could install a check valve in the water line between the pump and water tank.

Be sure to look in all bays and under the MH for water. Every time I had the problem of pump chirps, it was an internal water fitting. The 3/4 inch grey plastic male union.

Also check ice maker lines to the fridge, if applicable.

Having the pump cycling every "5 to 10 seconds" either points to a very large leak or the check valve. I'd think a walk around the RV would reveal such a large leak.

Mine was acting similarly so I installed an in-line check valve and it didn't help at all.

Fortunately, brand new - quieter pumps are available in the $75 to $125 range and are very simple to DIY install.

Good luck with it!
