Water pump upgrade?

Hi, finally got all the bugs worked out of the 1999 Dolphin 5350 we bought and are getting ready to take her out.

The water pump that's in the coach looks to be original, and it works fine and cycles properly. But water pressure isn't that great. All the valves are in their proper position and the lines are clear. I'm just wondering if anyone else has upgraded to one of these 5.5 to 7.0 gpm at 60 psi pumps that I see online everywhere for about $200. I'm sure my wife would really appreciate the pressure in the shower and all.

Any thoughts, opinions, experiences? Thanks.

The only limitation is the pressure rating for the water lines and fittings, and their condition.

One caution-wire size. Typical 3 gpm water pump draws 4-5 amps at 12v. Example 5.3 gpm pump draws 10A. I would upsize the wire to 10ga at least from your 12vdc panel to the pump, to prevent voltage drop and overheating of wires, wire nuts and the pump itself. Check pump suction line from tank to pump for kinks, excess elbows, etc as to much restriction on the suction line will decrease pump flow.
let us know how it comes out!

I'm sure the installation instructions would have their recommendation on that. But yes, I figured I'd be replacing the wire to the fuse block. Not a hard thing underneath. The trick is to keep it neat.

You might also check to see if you have two WP switches, on my National 5ver, I have a WP switch in the kitchen and one above the vanity. If you have two switches, check to see that the switches actually operate the WP via a relay; that is either switch turns on a relay (using very low current) and the relay in turn operates the WP and its much higher current. You wouldn't want to run 10-12A back to switch 2 then back to the pump, the wire run (out and back) might be more than 40', requiring even larger wire. My 5ver does not have that relay but the wire run is short (<10').

My coach does have a main pump switch on the wall at the main panel. Then there is a secondary switch in the bathroom area. So got that covered also.

I have seen the Oxygenics shower faucet sprayer that's supposed to deliver better pressure. I think it just has smaller water holes, using less water and giving the appearance of better pressure.

And the gauge of the existing wiring, as well as the size, (capacity) if your water and sewer tanks.

That is probably the case, the specs say it draws 7.5-10A.Thanks for the reminder.

Well, back to the original question, does anyone have any experience with one of these pumps? Or it there another that would deliver better water pressure without breaking the bank

I verified the pump I have now. It's a ShurFlo 2088-403-144, 2.8 gpm 4 amps. The power wire is #12, so I think I'll be OK there. Just think I'd like to get a 5 gpm at 60 psi pump in there.

I have the same Shurflo 2088-403-144 water pump.
The output pressure of that pump is adjustable, (which may affect the GPM as well)?
Simply increasing the output pressure to 60 PSI has been satisfactory for my wife.

Thanks for the video. I'll try upping the pressure one turn and I got an Oxygenetics shower head and I opened the orifice on the water saver washer. We'll see next week.
