Water pumps noisy

The water pump for our fresh water is right next to our bed.. We have talked all year about getting something that is not so noisy.. Our daughter asked for ideas for Christmas.. Has anyone found a unit that is quiet compared to all the rest.

I will add that the one we have now is mounted on rubber feet but this does not help.. We dry camp a lot so those two in the morning flushings are a real eye opener.

Thanks

Just off the top of my head I come up with 3 things. You can remount the pump on a softer piece of blown rubber that is itself independently attached, change location of pump, or install a RV pressure tank allowing you to turn off pump at night.

Try one of the variable speed water pumps. We added these to both our old and new-to-us Safari TREKS, and the reduction in noise was outstanding. These pumps never run at full speed unless the water faucet is fully open, and even then, are quieter than the old style pumps that run full speed at all times. A trickle of water from the faucet only results in a soft "glug-glug noise" as the pump cycles slowly.

This may not apply to your situation. But, it might give you another place to look for the source of your noise. Anywhere the hoses and/or fittings contact the structure could be the source of your frustration.

In our Minnie, the pump is located just under our heads as we lie in the bed. Those 2 AM flushings were really a rude awakening. After acertaining the pump was noise insulated from the floor, we tried isolating the water lines from contact with the floor. It helped quite a bit. Then came the revelation! My son was washing dishes and I was putting things away in the outside shower compartment. I happened to put pressure on the bracket that holds the valve body and viola! The noise was greatly reduced! It seems the hoses were rattling on the back wall of the compartment. Slipped some foam between the wall and the hoses, and cured the problem.

There are different qualities of water pumps from the same brand, the quietest ones being the most expensive (maybe twice what the lowest priced ones costs). I'd try to isolate as much of the pump and water lines as you can. If that doesn't work then I'd spend some $$$$ for a quieter pump. Good luck.

I recently put in a shurflo extreme variable speed pump. I moved it to the bottom floor of the wet bay, and used shurflo's "silencing kit" which is 2 3 foot long hoses.

The new pump has twice the pressure, more than twice the flow, and is virtually silent.

note this pump is big. 3" more from the pump head to the bottom of the motor, 4" more from fitting to fitting, as compared to the original shurflo pump. I didn't move it because I wanted to, it would not fit where the old one came out.

1st and cheepest: Slip foam water pipe insulation over as many hoses as you can near pump.
2nd If not already done add 24 to 36 inch flexable sink hoses to pump input and output lines. Typically pex is directly connected to pump and with no room for expansion it vibrates.
3rd What I did. Relocate pump to wet bay and tap it into winterizing suction line. Mount it on foam block and use flex hoses from #2 to connect pump. Connect hoses at old location with plastic pipe nipple - probably 1/2" npt

Thanks for all the ideas.. I know our flow is not great especially in the shower so I think we will try the newer pump and some flexible hose to start with.
