Just curious if anyone has installed a water softner on their RV. I've found one called the "water stick". Secondly, how about a Reverse Osmosis system. I realize both of these systems "regenerate" and use extra water.
All thoughts are appreciated with your experiences.

We have the Mark 8000 . You can see it here Flow Pur: Mark 8000

It uses a box of common table salt for regeneration and that process only takes a few gallons of water.

Price is $240 with free shipping. Mine is about two years old now and works fine. I set it up with quick disconnects so it is easy to hook up.

The problem with the WaterStick is it has a very limited capacity. It is a 1500 grain device while the bigger units like the Mark 8000 and the On The Go sold by Camping World are 8000 grain capacity.

With a water hardness of 25 grains the WaterStick will have to be regenerated after only 60 gallons of water have passed through it. The 8000 grain units will soften 320 gallons before requiring regeneration.

We use about 13 gallons of water per day so the WaterStick would only last us about 4 1/2 days. Under the same conditions our unit will last about 24 1/2 days.

Welcome to the forum!!!

We spend a lot of time in the desert so a water softener was a must for us. We use one from Camping World and have been relatively pleased with it but my wish list contains a RO set up, hard mounted in the plumbing bay, which will keep the fresh water tank full and I'd just use water from the tank even when hooked up to park water.

A search will yield many threads on this topic.

Good Luck,

Rick

I have an "On The Go" unit for 7 years and love it. It uses <2 gal of water per recharge. I don't know about RO but I believe they use more and the resultant water is more acidic and, as I understand it, the water does not suit the taste of quite a number of people.

BTW, we get about 3 weeks per charge with our OTG unit.

Here is where I got mine. Under 200 and they also have RO systems. If you have a salt intake problem an RO system might be called for or use potassium chloride vice sodium chloride for a recharge of any ion exchange system.
