Weird Front A/C Shutdown event

While returning from a Boomer's Rally over the 4th in Thackerville, OK, DCTina and I stopped at a DQ for a small blizzard. The lemon meringue one....yummy....lotsa carbs though....it was worth it.

Anyway, when we stopped, I thought I heard or felt the generator sputter, but only for a second or two.

Then I noticed the front A/C had stopped. Went back, checked the Intellitec board (shed system) and the EMS, power output from the generator was good, the shed system had green lights, operating fine.

Moved the switch from auto cool to high cool and immediately the front A/C roared back to life, but only the blower.

Checked breakers, power output again, etc. No answers.

Front A/C continued to stay off, so I shut the generator down and ran chassis air the rest of the way home, (back A/C is only in the bedroom and wouldn't help cool us at the front of the coach.....)

As we were driving on home, I asked DCTina if she had closed any of the vents above her bed (she had closed one or two the night before) which she said she had, and went back and opened them up, only 2 out of 6 were closed.

When we got home, all systems were normal, front A/C working fine.

Is it possible that two vent registers being closed could cause the unit to ice over and shut down the compressor? I don't know anything else that could have caused it.

Could have been icing over or perhaps a momentary hiccup in power to the A/C triggered the delay built in to prevent restart before pressures equalize. If you had waited a few minutes and tried to restart the A/C it might have worked. Most A/Cs have a built in delay, so do EMS and transfer switches. A combination of delays can make it seem like it's broken when it's just 'protecting' itself.

One of my past motorhomes had a problem with airflow. Anytime you ran the back A/C on low it would ice up. I didn't find it was that big a problem, I just ran it on high all the time. It could have been airflow or the Intellitec board will at times will just act up. I usually just shut down and restart the control board.

Does the control board have a separate breaker? I just flipped the A/C breakers on and off.

Thanks!

I believe the control board is powered by 12 v. It is turned on and off through the 12v from the thermostat.

He is correct. The control board is 12V. it controls the relay in the roof AC. The 12V relay turns on 120 v to the AC systems.
