Weird problem (1) with Axxera AV614BH in-dash stereo

This is a problem with Axxera AV614BH in-dash stereo that came in a 2016 (purchased new) Thor ACE 30.1. I believe this model is used across multiple Thor (and probably other) lines and across several years of production.

No, this isn't the missing remote issue. Dual (maker of Axxera) provided us with a remote when we asked. This is about the fact that we cannot insert a disk (CD or DVD.) A disk goes part way in, the unit whirs briefly, and then the disk is ejected.

Oddly enough the manual that came with it says in order to insert a disk, to press "TILT UP" repeatedly. But there is no TILT UP on the AV614BH panel, on the remote, or indeed even on that manual'S diagram of controls

Dual/Axxera customer support says the problem may be that there are two screws on the top of the unit that were there for shipping and should have been removed during installation. If not that, they say, there must be something wrong with the transport mechanism, and the AV614BH will need to be replaced.

I have queries in to both Thor and Dual asking if removal of the screws is something I can do, if so how do I get at them, and if it's not something I can do or the two screws turn out not to be the problem, who do I need to take it to. And who's going to pay.

So my questions here are: Has anyone seen a problem like this? If so, how was it resolved? Do you know how to get at the unit so I can see if the screws are there?

Additional (just for grins and/or to see if anybody read down this far): The AV614BH also seems to lack a feature that has been commonplace on even cheap car radios for two decades or more. It will scan through preset radio frequencies, or it will scan for the strongest stations and populate those presets. The first is great for arose bad hone, to choose among known favorites. The latter is fine for when the radio is new, or if I've gone sonewhere that I'm going to stay for a while. But for traveling through a state, What I want is to scan through the available stations at that time, so I can pick one. It's hard to believe they don't let me do that, but apparently they don't. And when I asked, they say they don't. The only alternative seems to be to press press press press the + or - key for every step.

I'm hopeful by that the feature is actually there, undocumented, and that someone has found it.

Thor says the radio has to come out, referred me to a dealer they say can handle it, and says it will be covered under warranty.

I think we have the same or similar unit in our 2015 ACE 29.3

You remove it from the dash by inserting "removal tool" at each side of the unit and pulling it straight out of dash. There should be info on this in the documents that came with the unit. The "tool" may be in a clear plastic bag also. I use a putty knife to remove the unit. The key is to not force anything, have patience. After having removed the unit a few times now I can remove and replace it in a minute or two.

I think there is a plastic trim ring around the unit that snaps off first before inserting tool.

Mine also has the push push push channel seek function. Probably the thing I like least about the unit. Have tried holding down the button to get a scan function but no luck.

If they are willing to repair for free, let them do it unless taking it to the dealer is a bigger hassle than fixing yourself.
