My 2002 Damon Intruder has the subject charger. Coming off the back of it is a phone line, terminated by what looks like a car alarm key FOB. It has a single button and a green LED.

Sometimes the led is blinking about once per second, others times it blinks about 5x per second. If I hold the button for a few seconds, I can get it to switch between fast and slow blinks.

The WFCO website has nothing listed on the WF-8875 - other than that the 8800 series has been replaced by the 9800 series... and that the newer version no longer has the 'push-button (manual override)'.

Can anyone shed some light on this - and specifically, what are the implications of one over the other?

Thanks...

erkme73,

What you have found is referred to as a "Charge Wizard". It basically tells you what 'state' your converter is in.

This is from Progressive Dynamics Charge Wizard info:

The Charge Wizard has a light that indicates the Mode it is operating in as follows.
LIGHT “ON” AT ALL TIMES – Indicates the Charge Wizard is in the Boost Mode (Converter output voltage set to 14.4-volts)
LIGHT “BLINKS” FAST - ON AND OFF APPROX. EVERY SECOND. – The Charge Wizard is in the Normal Mode (Converter output voltage set to 13.6-volts).
LIGHT “BLINKS” SLOW - ON AND OFF APPROX. EVERY 5 SECONDS. – The Charge Wizard is in the Storage Mode (Converter output voltage set to 13.2-volts).

Yours may work similarly, but like you I can't find any info from WFCO.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm sure that's similar to what I'm seeing. I didn't actually time the blinking, but reading your description sounds like what I've seen.

I read on the fourms about battery conditioning and charging system variables, and know so little about the subtleties, that I'm concerned I may be doing more harm than good.

The two 6V batteries I have now are constantly developing large volumes of the green/turquoise play-dough like corrosion material. The water levels seem high enough (over the plates). The cables are tight, and solid.

I've scraped the green stuff off, sprayed everything with the neutralizer, and even used the red paint-like sealer (and red/green foam terminal pads) but the stuff just keeps coming back.

How would I know that I'm not over-cooking my batteries? I really need some schooling on how to verify that the system is working as it should.
