What did you do with the norcold?

We are going to be replacing our almost new with all "fixes" norcold 1200 next month with a Samsung 197. The unit works great but I need more space for personal reasons.

My question is to all of those who replaced your working refrigerator with the residential refrigerator. What did you do with the unit? Did you sell it? Did you trade it? Did you make it an anchor? (just kidding on the last one but know people are very passionate about this topic)

Sell It

There are a lot of people out there who would love to have your frig. Some of us still dry camp and those ac units will become an anchor.

I couldn't give mine away. I did finally manage to sell some of the parts for a few bucks - circuit board, heaters, ice maker, recall box, gas valve, etc. The fridge itself went into the trash.

Unless you can find someone who is local who wants it, you are out of luck. Shipping costs are a deal breaker for anyone out of town.

I had the same thing with a J-lounge. I advertised it for free, finally a friend of mine took it and used it in a guest bedroom to put at the foot of the bed.

If I needed one I would drive to get it. I love mine, it's got a Amish cooling unit, and works great. It uses very little propane when I'm dry camping.

Put it on Craigslist.

I couldn't give mine away either. I ran ads in the local paper for a couple of weeks prior to having the install done. No takers. Part of my problem in trying to dispose of the Norcold was the actual Samsung install was done about 200 miles from my house. The question then became did I want to pay to have the old unit shipped to my house and try to sell it after the install. Nah, too much trouble, so I gave the Norcold to the installers. I hope they were able to resell it or use it for parts.

My 9 year old unit went to the local recycling center. Not much of a market for old Norcold parts except for the electronics. Nobody wanted mine though.

Lazy Days in Tampa, did my install. I didn't even ask what they were doing with my old Norcold, and I didn't care. I guess they junked it or sold it for parts.

I sold mine, with a new in the box replacement Amish cooling unit, to a local Mobile RV Repair. If he had not purchased it I was going to put it on Craigslist.

Just curious. With all the positives about the Amish unit, why would you buy one then sell the fridge? And what did you replace it with?

Mine went to an appliance recycler after I removed electronics. Recycled with a 1 year old Amish cooling unit that had failed.

The body went into the landfill. I kept the doors for a few days to see if anyone needed them with no hits and they went into the next trash bin large enough that I could find on my travels.

I sold the control board and eyebrow board and the fairly new ice maker. I kept the ice maker bin, crisper bins and all of the door bins.

I kept the oak wood panels and have used one large panel already to make a new door that is under the Samsung fridge.

I use one crisper bin to store soda cans and bottles on the lower shelf so they are contained all in one area. The door bins are used in my rolling garage hung on the wall to store small odds and ends.

That POS fridge was such a headache with so many problems, repairs, spoiled food, etc. that I would not even consider giving it to my worst neighbor.

I sold mine on a boon docking off the grid website. There are plenty of remote type cabins that can use one of these units. Sold it for $350 and was glad to see it leave.

I thought I would post an update. I called around to many different mobile mechanics and shops and finally found one that was looking for a norcold 1200 as a replacement for a unit that had just come in burnt up and the owner wanted to put another norcold in. We were able to work out a deal where they are going to remove the norcold and put in our new Samsung as an even swap. Win win for everyone.

Sold ours locally on Craigslist; took a week or two. It made a significant dent in what we paid for the new residential one.
