Question What would you do ?

Hello everyone, thank you in advance for any thoughts...I have a 92 Fleetwood Jamboree with an Onan 4000 bge generator. I have been having issues with the generator not wanting to start. I have to physically move the rod (not sure ) back and forth and if I get lucky it will start, I think I need a tune up maybe a new governor spring. I live in Denver metro area and was wondering should I take the RV to the Cummins repair facility or to an RV repair facility. I really want it fixed correctly but at the most cost effective way. (iam a teacher so money is always tight) What are your thoughts if you know of a specific place in Denver metro area that you like let me know.

jammer,
I would suggest calling each place, Cummings and an RV place and talk to the Shop Manager to see what they are all about. They may offer a tune-up special that covers the problem that you have. Try to see if you can find some reviews for the best places to deal with. Just some info you ya.

You might look under Generator Repair in the Yellow Pages for a possible repair shop.

I had success with that on my PowerTech 7.0k unit even though they did not sell the brand.

I would call Cummins in Denver first. In a city that size, the may have a separate facility that only works on their generators. Those guys work on everything from your 4KW gas up to backups for hospitals, etc. and will be the experts.

The local RV dealer, especially CW, would be my last choice.

You have a strange, erratic problem in a 23 y/o generator. Go right to the source. Cummins Rocky Mountain.

In most cases, the most cost effective course is to fix it right the first time.

I would take it to cummins. It's their product, and they will have the correct parts and expertise to properly repair it.

Cummins Rocky Mountain, Henderson CO. would by my choice. Sure the labor might be more expensive, but it's the total hours involved that cost you. A different shop might take 2x as long to properly repair your genset. I would not choose a shop where the technician must know everything about working on a MH and the genset it carries, that's kinda like going to a GP doctor for brain surgery because he charges less per hour.
