What's Leaking?

This past week Gary & I had a chance to do 2 things we hadn't done! The first was to put the washing machine in the coach to work. I did 3 loads the day before we left Hoots II. The day we left, we dumped the black tank and took advantage of the black tank rinse thingy for #2 (no pun intended ).

On our way out, we were leaving a trail of water. At first, I thought it was water from the A/C but after taking another look, it was obvious that wasn't the case. We think whatever leaked filled the underbelly under the tanks but aren't sure which appliance is responsible. We're leaning toward the washer though since the water wasn't brown. We really couldn't do anything about it there so decided just to go on. When we stopped at a rest area a couple of hours later, most of the water seemed to have found it's way out (and all over the Jeep).

Today, we took the pegboard out to have a look and saw nothing that looked loose or like it was leaking. We ran water down the toilet & a little water through the rinse connection and saw no sign of a leak. There is somewhat of an odor though. It's not bad but it's there.

Gary did discover what must be part of the heating system that lives behind the partition in the wet bay that had come loose from the top of the bay and was hanging down behind the partition. He was able to get it back in place & reattached. We don't think it was the cause of the water though.

SO... how could the washer have leaked there? (Assuming it's the washer.) It's a Whirlpool & is a stacked unit with a dryer. Is there a way to check the connection to the grey tank without taking the bottom of the coach off? We've had the coach sitting on an angle to see if anymore drains out and there doesn't seem to be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe it's not plumbed all the way to the tank? Should be dumping into your grey tank, and it should fill it relatively quickly. our washer fills our grey in two to three loads.

So i would start with an empty grey tank, and run the washer. Does the grey level increase? Does water gather elsewhere? That would be a definitive test to see if the washer is the issue.

FOUND IT!

It's the kitchen sink where it drains into the grey tank. The big black fitting is leaking from the top of the fitting and has apparently been doing so all along. It runs down the fitting & some runs under the board supporting the grey tank, some runs onto the grey tank it's self & some runs straight down the the fitting and drips into the area behind where the peg board is.

We can see the yellow sealant on the outside of the fitting where it enters the tank but not on the connection above it. Now that we know where it's coming from, we think we can fix it. Maybe. We'll have to take the rest of the partition down in that bay where the peg board mounts and wrestle the connection loose.

I put the drain in the sink and ran about 2" of water into the sink then pulled the drain out. There was quite a bit of water that didn't make it to the grey tank.

Thank heavens it's NOT the black tank! This will probably be more of chore to get to the fitting than actually do the fix. Good thing Gary has a lot of patience..too bad he doesn't have a lot of extra time right now.
