My stock '96 Safari gray tank monitor is not working properly.
To verify the BLACK tank level, I can look down through the toilet but how can I know when the GRAY is full?
The gray level reading, on the stock monitor panel, had always been fairly accurate, until it last week.
Now it ALWAYS reads either 2/3 or FULL, (even after it has been dumped).
In my old class C, if the gray tank was overfilled, gray water would come up the shower drain.
Can I expect the same in this case?
Is there any other symptom that would indicate that the gray tank is nearly, or completly full?
Any thoughts or ideas?
Thank you,
Mel

Same in our class A. When you're taking a shower & the water won't go down the drain anymore & starts filling the shower floor....the gray tank is full.

There is a plethora of "remedies" to correct the readings. None seem to work well. My best result was using TSP (tri-sodium phosphate) heavy duty cleaner.I mixed a box in 5 G hot water to dissolve it and poured it down the sink, then 1/2 filled the tank before departing on a trip. Some reported success using Ammonia, but never tried that.

The shower filling up has told me a couple that I'm full, usually happens when we have extra, non "RV" knowledgeable guests. So far my level indicators work fine.

The standard sensor is nothing more than a nail or bolt, that sticks into the tank, There is nothing at all special about it.. Thus if you get say some soap scum on the side of the tank, or grease or any other conductive "Slime" it senses "At least this full"
Now, there are several alternatives.
1: Tank cleaning.. The Geo Method seems to work best,, I have had some luck adding about 1/2 cup each Calgon water softener and Dawn Dishwashing Liquid (the original, NOT the anti-bacterial) and five to six gallons of water in my 36 gallon tanks.. Then drive, 50-60 miles... Sometimes it works.
Option 2 is biological products (Waste Digesters) that MAY (Again I stress the qualifier) eat the slime.
There are some improved nails.. Horst Miracle probes is the name, Now I have not (yet) tried them but reports on the forums have not been bad.. I have not read a report from anyone who used them for an extended period though.
Finally there are some systems like the See-level system... They work, and work well, but expensive.
As to when the tank is full.... When the shower floor turns from dry to wet without the water being turned on.
