If thats the case are you saying we should not get the word out on the recalls originated by Norcold because they knew they had a problem?
Remember their recall goes from 1987 to present, looks like they know they had a problem, this is long before the recent class action law suit.

OK, one more time; is there a definitive model by year list of susceptible units in this mass recall. If the unit I have is not on recall should I get my dander in a dither just because? I'm not trying to be a smartazz I'm trying to find out real information and how it pertains to me. I will concede that Norcold does have a problem; what I need to know is, does the problem extend to make year of Norcold RV fridge.

Do you have the model number of your old fridge?
Its a 94 coach your within the 1987 -2013 time frame.
If its a two door it can be under the recall.
We need and Norcold would need the model number of your fridge.
If you read this link the model numbers and serial numbers are listed in this link of the Norcold recall.
Not much else I can tell you if you do not answer, sorry.

Nevertheless, any fire in a rig that even HAS a fridge is automatically assumed by the less skeptical folks among us to have been Norcold-caused.

Go figure...
I just searched for any threads containing "fridge fire". I found it to be very informative.

It appears you have a Norcold Model 8682. I can't find it listed as one of the units in the recall.

You also need to pull the cover off the outside of the RV and get the cooling unit number. THis number should be checked against Norcold's recall list.

The recall link also provides a phone number you can call.

You maybe OK with model# 8682 and serial #2305 as far as I can make out but I would call Norcold to be sure with that info to make sure.
I can not find a 8682 so far on a list.

Here is a PDF for your fridge.

If you ever need a cooling unit.

If that's for me, I didn't say anything about "not getting the word out for the recall"- of course people should know about such things.

But this thread is about the lawsuit, and lawsuits are about damages. A person having the recall work done isn't damaged. For that you need fires actually caused by the defect. I thought the O.P. was bringing up the apparent dearth of proven cases of such events, and if so I agree that such a lack exists.

If anyone can point to a source listing the 4,000 or so RV fires that happen every year along with the causes of each, it would make very interesting reading, I'm sure. Meanwhile, here's an interesting document detailing the care that should be taken when investigating such fires.

The first post of this thread is about Possum looking to find out if his fridge is on Norcolds recall list, your posting in wrong thread if you want to discuss the law suite.

Thanks everyone for the assistance. I've sent the scan of the builders plate (??) to Thetford / Norcold to see if they can verify what we kinda guessed at. Strange that the numbers are way more visible in the scan than on the original.

I now have a saved PDF file of my unit and sometime today I will take pictures of the workings of the unit from the back and also post them to see if these too agree with everyone's assessment.

I have also included a request of Thetford/Norcold that they compile a list of recalls by model/year so that we can post it prominently for people to see what is and what isn't happening regards their unit.

I can understand the concern some are having with this issue. Again my thanks.
