I have a 2004 Newmar Dutch Star with a 32 gallon propane tank. I was staying in an area for several months and did not want to unhook to take a long ride to get propane filled. There are trucks that did deliver locally but do not carry the adapter to be able to fill my tank. What kind of adapter is it? I would like to purchase one. I do not think it is the stay awhile or extend a stay. Thank you

that's weird
my on board tank fitting is the same as the one for our big fixed tank at the house.
its a large fitting about 1.5 " with coarse threads,

If your tank is mounted permanent on your RV you need the automotive nozzle type. Not sure if you can buy an adapter. Some parks have trucks that will come to your site and fill tank. They have proper fill nozzle. In a park last year in Brownsville Texas they filled mine at the RV park with a mobile tanker unit.

Contact a local LP dealer. But I don't think they will sell you one. Post back and let us know. We built an "extend-a-stay" back in 2006 and run 20lb BBQ tanks. Works for us.

Most all RV's have the same fill port on the tank .... This may be the same fill port as used on the hundreds of gallons tanks at houses and stores and such.. (I Do not know) it is the big threaded fitting with the plastic cap. Measure it.

NOTE: The dispatcher or the head technician at the propane company should know what adapter is needed.. However.. be advised.

In the old days truck delivery to RV's was common.. But not so much any more.. I am told.. BUT HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO VERIFY that this is due to a change in law. There are a lot of "new" Laws out there,, some of them are very good laws.

Do not take my word on law,, As I said, I have not attempted to verify and thus am not sure myself.

Suggestion... If you do not want to drive the rig then you might wish to invest in an "Extend-a-Stay" or "Stay-a-While" (Basically the same product... The first is Marshall Brass and the 2nd Camping World.. MOST RV stores will have the Marshall Brass version) This is a handy little fitting that goes between the POL valve on your mounted tank and the Regulator (maker sure you have room) it adds a few features.

1: A "Quick Disconnect" Propane "Outlet" This fitting is like the top of those throw-away bottles you use for your grill.. Comes with a 10' extension hose to fire up your grill with.

2: An "inlet" this is a different size fitting, comes with a 5' inlet hose this hose has either an ACME or POL fitting to match a portable tank.

Check valves to insure you do not 'Back feed' a tank.

Then you can get a couple of say 50 pounders. (That's about 12 gallons) and take them to the re-fill station in your smaller towed car as needed.

Odd indeed. That's a standard fitting on the motorhome tank, which conforms to ASME gs tank standards just like residential LP tanks. Did the propane guy actually look at the tank, or just say "no" when you asked? The ASME tanks on motorhomes are different than the DOT portable tanks used on trailers, so he may have been thinking of those. Or maybe his truck is equipped only to fill DOT gas bottles???

I just found this article showing an "adapter" for fixed tanks.

http://www.khulsey.com/rv_info/techt...ller-hose.html

But it looks like a standard filler nozzle to me - not an adapter. I'm thinking it is just a replacement part.

thank you....You might br correct...the gas company not being familiar with motorhome might have assumed that we have the larg portable tanks. i also did not know the valve is called ASME
Now i can call them and tell them what kind of valve i have...thanks again
i will also check the link you sent

It's the whole tank that is ASME - all fixed gas tanks conform to ASME standards. The filler valve you have should be the same as on the residential tanks he fills.

While in FL.last January had refills done by LP supply truck which the camp ground office directed to my site.
Campground owners know who to call so there is no problem.
Requested a locall LP supplier for some LP at my home and they would not deliver said it was not allowed. Said he had no problem if he was allowed.

thank you for the information....I need to check with companies in the area i intend to go back to next summer. this campground is a county park no hookups ( just mine for giving them some hours ) I will make some calls to the companies in that area to find out if they will deliver when they go to homes in the area. Now that i know my tank has the same fittings as residential tanks i can clue them in about it. thanks again

thanks...but i don't think we are talking about the same thing....
If i understand the replies i am getting...it appears that the motorhome large fixed tanks are the same as residential. I think the extend-a-stay is for the smaller tanks found in pop ups and and trailers.

Oops. then I guess I shouldn't have an extend-a-stay plumbed into the line of my Class C's standard RV 40LB permanent tank?

Personally, I think the gas guy was shooting you a line of bull. He should have been able to fill your standard permanent mount RV tank and turn around and fill a 100 LB LP tank then fill a 250 gal big tank all without changing his fill nozzle. The only time he should have to change a nozzle is to fill a 30 or 20 lb portable tank. Basically, they don't want to drive out to fill your tank. The extend a stay is simply a brass "T" inserted into the LP gas line between the permanent mount tank and the regulator. What size tank you connect to the "T" is up to you. I have seen 100 LB tanks and 250 lb tanks connected to the "T". We personally use 20lb tanks because we didn't want to haul a 100lb tank around with us (we sold that one.... wanna guess how I know we can hook up the 100 lb LP tank to our "T"???).

This is our homemade Extend-a-stay. It consists of a Brass "T", an LP gas shutoff valve and an LP Gas Quick Connect fitting, then the Quick Connect hose to the "T" on our Portable 20lb tanks (we also run the gas grill off the same tank). We built our own because it was MUCH cheaper to build it ourselves and we wanted the Quick Connect fittings and the shutoffs. After all why buy something with features we neither wanted nor could use.

I am on propane at home and am on a route every 3 weeks. Amerigas told me it was coprorate policy not to fill motorhomes on site. Does not make since to me as he is already in my driveway.

It is perfectly ok to use an Extend-a-stay with a motorhome lp gas system. The type of tank in the RV is irrelevant. So is the type of tank used as the extension (auxiliary) tank.
