Sidebar question to this subject...
For those who use gas grills, do any of you know what portable gas grills can be used with a standard 20 lb propane tank like the one your backyard standard grill uses?

My husband doesn't want charcoal and he really doesn't care for the baby propane tanks. I realize we would need an adapter but would prefer to know which ones might to narrow our search.

I'm a grilling fanatic and carry too many grilling options!

For propane use and cooking for large crowds, I carry a Weber Q 2000, and it's mobile cart.

For slow and low smoking, steaming, baking, BBQ I carry a charcoal Cobb grill.

For crazy-hurry outdoor grilling I carry a Coleman Grill Stove that does great jobs if I don't need the BIG WeberQ, or having to deal with charcoal. And it's great for use with a Dutch Oven using a Camp Chef fireproof DU cover.

For indoor stovetop grilling I have a cast iron Twiztt by Joan Lunden sear and roast set. It performs great stovetop grilling and baking. Interestingly, I have loaned it on different occasions to neighbor RVers who have run out of wood pellets for their Trager grills, or propane or charcoal.

And, most recently I picked up an electric Ronco Ready Grill! Yes, grill number 4, (it's really a large vertical toaster with a food basket that leaves great sear marks). However, this one works great when it's raining outside. Surprisingly, it really does work great for a "as seen on TV" type product!

We use a Webber babyQ, we have it running off the Mh propane via a propane quick disconnect after the regulator, I have a propane hose from the grille that has no regulator with a quick disconnect fitting....works great..

Most all gas grills can be used with the 20 lb tanks if you get the proper hose/adapter. Most brand name grill manufacturers offer the hose/adapter as an option.

I have this grill:

it as a great portable grill and can easily be ran off a 20lb tank with the hose adapter as mentioned by ROTIS.

Any grill that accepts the small 1 lb propane bottles can be adapted easily to run off any size propane tank you please. That's because the fitting of a 1 lb propane canister, and the regular propane tank fitting, are industry standard. Any adapter hose you want to buy will work, although I have a Weber q, and bought their standard adapter hose.

By the way, have you looked at the in between propane tank size? I agree with your husband about the small 1 lb canisters, but we use the smallish 1 gallon (about 4-1/2 lb) propane tank. Perfect for us, especially with the small grill, and lasts for many grilling sessions.
